Almost Tom Yam!

Hello, puan-puan sekalian.

And there you have it, my authentic 'Almost Tom Yam' recipe. Here it goes...

Ingredients

Chicken fillet / Any kind of seafood (except fish)
Tom Yam paste / Thai Chilli Paste
Onions (to taste)
Garlic (to taste)
Carrots (or any other kind of vegetables)
Salt
Fish sauce

Cooking method

Saute onions and garlic in a pan that has been heated with a teaspoon of oil. In Thai cooking, sesame oil is usually used.

Once the onions + garlic has turned golden, add in the carrots.

Then, add in the chicken fillet that has been diced and cook it for a good 5 minutes.

Add in tom yam paste / thai chilli paste (you can buy ready made ones in the supermarket, or you can make your own using dried chilli + tamarind + bird's eye chilli + fish sauce + salt + sugar + lemon leaves)

Cook and stir it till it loses its chilli smell (if you know what I mean). At this point, you'd need to add salt and fish sauce. Usually I don't add in salt because the fish sauce is already salty.

Once the gravy thickens, you can switch the stove off and serve your dish with rice.

Try it and leave your comments.
